Dandruff is a pain

no matter which way you put it. It's annoying to deal with, it's embarrassing,  it’s uncomfortable. There is nothing good that can really be said about it. Today were going to talk about what it is, why it happens, and what you can do about it.

Dandruff is a very common condition that causes the skin on your scalp to flake. That is the most basic description of what dandruff is and what we see when we have it, or see someone that has it. Why Does It Happen?

People with oily skin are often more prone to dandruff. The reason: A yeast called Malassezia globosa feeds on oils on the scalp. Some people’s bodies perceive this breakdown of oil as an irritant, so the scalp reacts by upping the speed at which skin cells renew, causing dandruff, notes Amy McMichael, MD, professor of dermatology and chair of the department of dermatology at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

 

Another reason can be shampooing habits. A lot of information is passed around online about how often we should wash our hair and what we should wash our hair with. Some people produce oil at a higher frequency than others, therefore they need to wash their hair at a higher frequency than others, and when they don’t they then can see some dandruff activity.

 

How Do You Fix It? 

 There are a few ways dermatologists recommend that you treat dandruff. They all involve shampoos! The good thing about this is, its an easy fix-its as easy as washing your hair. There are several over the counter shampoos that contain ingredients that are specifically used to target and remove dandruff. Selenium Sulfide is one such ingredient, Ketoconazole is another and both can be found in different drug store dandruff shampoos.
